Gentle and Relaxing Swedish Massage
A classical form of massage, and a great place to begin. This type of massage is always peaceful and rejuvenating ❦ ❊✺✴︎☁︎
This style was developed by a Dutch doctor called Johan Georg Mezger; it is characterised by smooth, gliding strokes, flowing rhythm and adaptable pressure, which makes it excellent as a very gentle, delicate option ♡
The aims are to reduce muscular tension throughout the body by increasing local circulation of blood and lymphatic fluids; to stretch muscle fibres; and to reduce adhesions in scar tisssue. Swedish Massage also stimulates the peripheral nervous system which encourages physical and emotional relaxation.
Trauma-Informed Massage & Bodywork
If you have gone through trauma or acute stress in your life - either recently or in the past - it will be worthwhile for you to work with a Trauma-Informed Massage Therapist - which I am.
Most forms of Massage, but especially types that work on the deepest layers of muscles (Ashiatsu), will elicit an involuntary Emotional Release. This usually feels cleansing and makes you feel lighter and happier afterwards.
But Emotional Release is different from Trauma Release.
We know now that trauma does not only affect the Brain / the Mind, it affects the nervous system: traumatic events can interfere with regulation. Trauma is also stored as excess energy in the tissues of the body. Repeated trauma responses can change the way our bodies work.
Massage, and Trauma -Informed Bodywork, alongside other therapies, can help to release the effects of Trauma and Trauma responses from the body. Excess energy will dissipate, long-held stress patterns will fade.
Addiction
My Research Speciality is trauma stemming from Addiction (primarily to substances: Narcotics and Alcohol), some of the root causes of those addictions, and how to heal the systems of the body.
Addiction is unyielding at the time. But studies show that, in many cases, during and after recovery, any physical and mental damage can be fully reversed. Meaning you can bloom with health :)
I would not outline my approach to Trauma-Informed Massage here, as it is a treatment that is so dependent on you and your individual needs. If you are interested, you could contact me for a consultation.
Trauma-Informed Careful Touch
Some people are afraid to trust others and experience anxiety, or other responses, when they are touched, perhaps due to experiences from the past. If this sounds familiar to you, perhaps you would benefit from what some practitioners call Touch Therapy - although it goes by various names.
This is too personalised for me to say anything further on a general site.
